Let me tell you a story of somebody we all know. Petra was in third year of high school when her three best friends pushed her into studying biology - something she hasn’t even considered before. In her eyes, she have always seen herself following her mother´s footsteps, becoming a cardiologist. Truth is that this path is especially hard. Being a doctor is more than anything a lifelong commitment requiring personal sacrifices. Such realization was simply too huge challenge for Petra´s self-confidence. “There is no harm in studying here. I mean, girls love it… why couldn´t I?” she told herself on her first day at the university. Unfortunately, she found out quickly that indeed there is harm in decisions based on what others want. She learnt that doing decisions without sufficient information ends terribly. Not that studying biology is bad, don’t get me wrong. The point of the story is that it has been incorrect for Petra. It’s a long story and I appreciate your time, so I´ll get straight to the point. After two years of depression, not seeing her future anywhere in biology, Petra dropped out of the classes. Next year, she enrolled in chemistry specialization. After a brief half a year there, she dropped out too, knowing this is not her path too. Finally she settled for something not that far away from her first dream - Petra started to study public health.
Why was it important to mention? If
you count it right, Petra lost 3 years she will never get back. 3 years = 1095
days leading nowhere.
- Imagine you could see all those people you grew up with finishing something you have been struggling for such a long time.
- Imagine that after all those years, you are still on the starting line.
- Imagine the costs it takes to live for 3 years out of home being blown into the air. And now you even have to pay for your further studies.
- Imagine CEO or that HR specialist from the firm where you want to work so badly, reviewing your CV seeing those 3 years of missed opportunities.
- Imagine the impact it must have on your mind, drifting from one goalless path to other.
But there is hope for Petra, don’t be afraid. She finally started to find herself in her current specialization. It probably just came little late. There is a reason why I have written “people we all know” in the beginning. Honestly, we all have people like Petra in our lives. Why? It is always the same reason. Petra and many others relied on emotion and not information. They didn’t follow their goals, they did not even create one. Information is the true power in today´s society and without it, you might make wrong decision. The problem itself is not only in ourselves and our laziness.

The objective problem is that it is hard to find the right
information. And that is why we created youth organization
Future Generation Europe and our project EuroSchool. At FGE, we believe that
the power of information cannot be underestimated and in some cases, it can
even save lives. We know that we do not have to be trained carrier advisors to
help other young people. We believe that according to “students help students”
doctrine, we just need to connect them. Because when young people meet - they
learn. And when they learn, they can decide better.
Inspired by stories like you have read above, we started summer 2014. Not knowing the possibility of our dreams - we set out to make some of our concepts real. First success came surprisingly soon - we established our framework project EuroSchool and organized our flagship subproject Mini-Erasmus. We brought university and high school students together in Slovakia. Our methods were simple and straightforward - we wanted to show young people as much as possible. Mainly thanks to Mini-Erasmus, over 500 students had a chance to see how university really looks like for one week. Firstly in November. Later in March. However, the idea did not end up here. Living in Europe is an advantage. Advantage people are mostly not aware of. One thing we realized is that if you want to make high school students attracted to European opportunities, you must connect them with something what interests them mostly. Connect Europe with the question of their future and they will listen. Besides, people need to know more about ERASMUS, about foreign opportunities and different cultures.

What about you? Do you want EuroSchool in your country? You can help us achieve this and therefore we kindly ask you for your support. How? Learn about that more in the graphic below. You think your photo and message cannot change anything? Allow me a quote“Yet what is any ocean, but a multitude of drops?”For us, this is not a competition. This is a cause. Help us bring it to all of Europe, help us bring it for future generations.
Light up your future,
Matúš Jarolín & Co.
